This gallery has been pacing around the cage on the back burner for a while, waiting for image creation and editing to finally catch up with the idea.
ANIMALS looks at creatures whose coats, scales, shells, feathers, spots, stripes, and other natural patterns already seem halfway toward becoming The Face. Rather than simply placing The Face onto an animal, the images work it into what is already there. A spot becomes a Face. A stripe bends toward one. A shell, flank, wing, or patch of fur suddenly appears to have been waiting for it all along.
Spotted, striped, and patterned animals are all represented here, from the obvious candidates to the increasingly ridiculous. The fun is in how little alteration some of them need before nature itself starts looking suspiciously cooperative.
The layout takes its cue from the old animal posters that hung in grade-school classrooms, those dense educational sheets where every creature seemed neatly labeled, slightly exotic, and extremely important.
Apparently we were studying The Face the whole time.
