MAP

The appearances may or may not have actually happened. That is the premise of this map, which places The Face around the world through a combination of generated imagery, edited metadata, and geographic coordinates. What began all over the map required three different platforms working together before the journey could finally be plotted properly.

Moscow, New York City, Antarctica, Bangkok, and points between them become stops on an increasingly questionable itinerary. Some actual photographs are sprinkled among the generated ones, deliberately blurring the line between documentation and invention. Editing geotags and metadata also raises political, metaphysical, and legal questions about what a photograph proves once its location can be rewritten as easily as its pixels.

Pack lightly. Apparently The Face has already checked in everywhere.
