ABOUT THIS GALLERY

FLAGS

This one feels like a long-delayed idea finally catching up with its tools.

Inspired by a fellow artist’s concept of building one enormous flag from many smaller flags, I found myself asking a different question: why couldn’t The Face appear on the flags of sovereign nations? The idea sat dormant for a long time, mostly because the process required more precision and flexibility than I could comfortably achieve at the time.

Now it can.

This gallery is built from a three-part system that lets me download specific flag versions, edit them, and then place the finished results into a clean visual presentation. What began as a thought experiment about repetition, identity, and national symbolism has become a working archive of altered flags, each one carrying The Face into a new context.

Flags already do an enormous amount of symbolic work. Add The Face, and suddenly they become even stranger.

A nation, a symbol, a Face.

That’s a lot to wave around.
